"For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid which
is Jesus Christ."
1 Corinthians 3:11
Religious Studies at UMEI guides students through Scripture and the exploration of Christian thought, helping them grow in faith and understanding throughout their high school years. Students study and discover God’s covenant faithfulness, the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, and the mission of the Church, grounding students in the biblical narrative and inviting them to see God’s redemptive work in history and in their own lives.
JUNIOR COURSES
Old & New Testament
Old & New Testament
Grade 9
Old Testament
Students explore the story of the Old Testament, tracing God’s relationship with His people from creation through the prophets. Through key events, covenant themes, and major biblical figures, students learn how the Old Testament reveals God’s character, faithfulness, and redemptive plan. The course helps students understand how these ancient writings shape Christian faith today and point forward to the life and mission of Jesus Christ.
Grade 10
New Testament
Students explore the life, teachings, and ministry of Jesus Christ within the historical and cultural world of first-century Judaism. By examining His parables, miracles, death, and resurrection, students come to understand their meaning for believers today. The course continues with a study of the early Church, from Pentecost through the spread of the gospel, including an introduction to the Gospels and Epistles. Throughout the course, students are encouraged to reflect on their own faith as they consider the foundation and mission of the Christian Church.

SENIOR COURSES
CHURCH HISTORY & PHILOSOPHY
Grade 11
Church History
Students trace the story of the Christian Church from the Early Church to the present, engaging history through an Anabaptist lens. As they examine key movements, leaders, and turning points, students consider how the Church has sought—at times faithfully and at times imperfectly—to live out its calling as the body of Christ. By studying the past, students gain insight into God’s ongoing work in the world today and reflect on their own place within the Church’s continuing story.
Grade 12
Philosophy
Students explore major areas of philosophy in a classroom environment that welcomes thoughtful questions and guided discussion. Through the study of worldview, ethics, and contemporary issues, students develop skills in critical and creative thinking. Engaging modern moral and cultural questions through a Christian perspective, the course encourages students to grow as reflective learners, responsible citizens, and committed members of the Church community.
