Robotics
Enriching Students with Hands-On Technology Skills.

Imagine this...
Every day, students build robots, program them with code, and solve unique challenges alongside teammates. No textbooks, no lectures—just hands-on, authentic learning applied to the real world.

I cannot say enough how attending UMEI has changed my life and shaped me as a person.
Not only have I received the best academic education possible, but I
have grown in my confidence, leadership capabilities, and my faith.

Learning Through Robotics

UMEI's Robotics Program is built on a simple principle: students learn best through building, experimentation, and real-world problem solving. Robotics is offered as a fully integrated, enriched four-year program designed to develop technical skill, creativity, and resilience.
The program emphasizes hands-on learning, interdisciplinary thinking, and practical application — preparing students for pathways in engineering, technology, skilled trades, and related fields.
Inside the Program
A Four-Year Robotics Journey
Program Advantage

UMEI offers a structured, four-year robotics pathway:
-
Grade 9 – LEGO Robotics Foundations
-
Grade 10 – Custom Robot Design & Build
-
Grades 11 & 12 – FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC)
Students develop skills in:
-
Mechanical and electrical systems, programming and automation
-
Teamwork, project management, communication and leadership
Confidence Through Challenge
Achievement & Impact

UMEI robotics teams consistently compete at a high level within Ontario, demonstrating strength in engineering design, programming, strategy, and collaboration. Beyond competition, the program helps students develop confidence, direction, and clarity through applied technical learning. Students gain valuable experience in teamwork, critical thinking, and leadership while applying classroom learning in meaningful, real-world ways. The program builds resilience, initiative, and problem-solving for future pathways.
A Tradition of Robotics
History of the Program

The Robotics Program, founded over 20 years ago, was established to provide students with authentic technical challenges aligned with evolving workforce demands. What began in a small lab has grown into a dedicated workspace, reflecting sustained student interest and program growth. Mentorship and community involvement remain central to the program’s development. Through hands-on learning and collaboration, students build technical skills, curiosity, and practical experience that support future pathways.
Skills for Future Innovators
Preparing for the Future

As robotics, automation, and emerging technologies reshape industries, the program equips students with highly transferable skills:
-
Analytical thinking
-
Technical literacy
-
Creative problem solving
-
Collaboration and adaptability
By integrating theory with practical experience, students are prepared not only to understand technology, but to build and innovate with it.
