A word from our Principal

UMEI Christian High School has a rich tradition of providing a Christ-centered education, where academic excellence and spiritual growth go hand in hand. We are a private school dedicated to tailoring our academic program and high school experience to best fit the needs of our students. We’re here to guide our students through their teenage years every single day.

Our school is committed to nurturing the whole person – academically and spiritually. We believe that education is more than just gaining knowledge; it is about shaping character, instilling values, and preparing our students to be compassionate, responsible, and active Christ-like members in society at a time when it is desperately needed in our world. Our dedicated teachers and staff, along with our vibrant community, work together to create an environment where every student can thrive and reach their full potential.

As we embark on this journey together, our students are encouraged to embrace the opportunities that lie ahead. Whether in the classroom, on the athletic field, in the arts, or through service projects, they work to pursue excellence, cultivate their God-given talents, and grow in their faith. Our students are challenged to be curious; to ask questions, and to have a great sense of wonder about learning, life, and Jesus.

Our school has always been a partnership with student’s parents and guardians. We are grateful for the trust you place in us and for the role you play in your child’s education. Together, we can inspire and empower our students to become lifelong learners and followers of Christ. May this year be filled with meaningful learning, personal growth, and a deeper connection to our faith and community. We look forward to witnessing the incredible achievements and transformations that will unfold in the coming months, and I invite you to come discover our amazing school with a personal tour today!

Who we are

Who We Are

UMEI is rooted in the Anabaptist tradition, dedicated to helping young people reach their full potential—academically, spiritually, and personally. Serving students in Grades 9–12, UMEI offers a supportive learning community where faith and learning are deeply connected. Our approach to education focuses on the whole person, encouraging students to grow in knowledge, character, and purpose. Grounded in Christian values and a commitment to service, UMEI seeks to equip students not only for academic success, but to become thoughtful, compassionate “doers of the word” who are prepared to make a meaningful difference in their communities and beyond.

Our Motto

Helping young people reach their full potential spiritually and academically so they’re empowered to make a difference.

mission

Anchored in the Anabaptist tradition, UMEI Christian High School exists to educate the whole person, cultivating full academic, spiritual and individual potential, in order to make young people “doers of the word” in the community.

Accreditation

UMEI Christian High School proudly offers education in Grades 9-12. Our high school students are provided with Ontario Ministry of Education Curriculum and earn the Ontario Secondary Schools Diploma (OSSD).

Embracing Diversity as God’s Gift

Difference Embracers are students who know they do not exist in a vacuum. Not only are they taught about diversity but are given opportunities to go and interact in settings dramatically different from their own cultures. They are taught that the world is bigger than their communities and, instead of this being a cause for fear, they are given the tools needed to count this a blessing and embrace it.

Serving Others with Christlike Humility

Service Givers learn early on that the world does not revolve around them. These students are taught, through the example of Christ, what it means to go out and wash others’ feet. Service givers are instilled with values that emphasize giving back through hands-on opportunities to serve others and connecting with service organizations.

history

UMEI Christmas 2025-1.avif

For over sixty years, uMEI has provided outstanding holistic education for the spiritual, intellectual, and physical needs of students.

UMEI began as a Bible school in the winter of 1944 – 45 under the name “United Mennonite Church in Ontario School Association” and later “United Mennonite Educational Institute.” The program soon expanded to include grade nine and ten courses and after it was incorporated in 1946, UMEI offered a complete high school education.

As a church school, specifically a Mennonite secondary school, UMEI infuses learning with a distinctive Anabaptist/Mennonite world view which includes living a life of peace and non-resistance, nurturing a respect for life in all of God’s creation and living a life of discipleship and service. UMEI offers a high school program leading to an Ontario Secondary School Diploma. The school is inspected by representatives from the Ministry of Education and Training who regularly approve our program and awarding of diplomas.
